A completely new ecosystem is being built in Skellefteå and it’s linked to one of Europe's largest industrial investments - Europe's first large-scale lithium-ion battery factory. The initiative presents both challenges and opportunities, where several societal stakeholders need to work together effectively to build a strong and viable business climate.

Skellefteå Science City works together with EIT InnoEnergy (The European Institute of Innovation and Technology) to create an industrial ecosystem for battery production in Europe.

NORTHERN EUROPE'S FASTEST GROWING GAMING CLUSTER

Arctic Game Lab works with strengthening the gaming industry in the region by contributing to a more diverse and inclusive labor market. To create an industry that contributes to the development of innovation know-how in other industries, attracts the migration and formation of companies and reduces the flight of skills.

Since 2016, a regional investment in the gaming industry – funded by the municipalities of Umeå, Skellefteå, Piteå, Luleå and Boden – has been underway in northern Sweden. Skellefteå Science City is tasked with driving this initiative, with financial support from the municipalities, local regions and the EU project, Innovation Game 2.0.

AI NORTHERN NODE

The purpose of this project is to establish a node within AI Sweden in Northern Sweden - a distributed node in Luleå, Skellefteå and Sundsvall.

The most innovative ideas are usually found at the intersection of different industries and sectors. The Intersective Innovation project is a collaborative project run in alliance with Skellefteå Science City, Piteå Science Park and RISE in which we test different methods for open innovation.
