The ELIS development program is aiming to speed up commercialization of electric aviation solutions by establishing a testbed and participating in development projects on a national and international scale.

The development program was launched in 2021 to help speed up the way to commercialization of battery and hydrogen electric aircraft, eVTOLs, drones and supporting infrastructure.

The ambition is to become an early adopter of electric aviation and a leading hub in the research and development of electrified aviation in Sweden and beyond. The best way to innovate and push boundaries forward is to collaborate and work together in partnership.

We have a solid foundation thanks to Skellefteå municipality, Skellefteå Kraft, Skellefteå Airport and Skellefteå Science City but we also have a broad partner network within both public, private and academic sectors regarding:

  • Maintenance and repair

  • Airspace and air navigation services

  • Power supply

  • Charging

  • Hydrogen

  • Drones

  • Composites

  • Sensors

  • Ground infrastructure

  • Electromagnetic interference and compatibility

The programme invites partners to work with us and to identify joint projects. The program and its testbed will set a scene for developers around the world to test vehicles, equipment and solutions in real conditions and thereby contribute to speed up the development.

The program has made an investment in a state-of-the-art 1MW power supply available at airside and dedicated to electric aviation. Together with a number of partners, we will also build a permanent droneport in Skellefteå during 2023 to be used for test, development and demonstration.

Together, we hope to contribute to breakthroughs in research and development in technology and in new commercial models for electric aviation.
